I removed a hyperlink from my flashpage and the file (which was another whole
page) disappeared. I was working offline on a hard disk copy in preparation
for publishing and trying to relink some pages. I have searched the hard
drive for the missing file. What did FP do with it?

flashpage?

Your question is confusing.

Deleting a hyperlink itself just deletes the link, not the file its linked
to...did the file exist within your FP website? Kinda-sorta sounds like
you're linking to something outside your website. Did you actually create a
website or are you working with "loose" pages.

BTW..if you truly delete a file from within an FP website...it's gone,
there's no stopover in the Recycle Bin.
