I am using suse 10.3. when ever I used : alias beep="echo -en
\"\\007\""
echo
-ne $'\a'
I am not getting the beep sound.
I turned the beep on by using xset b on.but it is not working.
I also used tput bel but not not working.

could any one please help me about the beep and also the tput
command......

Sounds like your OS is broken. You should reformat and install Solaris, and
let us know if it works then. (Warning: may cause data loss...)

Or, you can ask on a Linux newsgroup.
