I have installed SAS 8.0, but when I launched it, the SAS message Log
implied the next imformantion:

ERROR: Library WORK does not exist.
FATAL: Unable to initialize the options subsystem.

(SASXKINI): PHASE 3 KERNEL INITIALIZATION FAILED.
UNABLE TO INITIALIZE THE SAS KERNEL

Because I'm not tht administrator of the computer, I don't know how to
solve this problem, and I need your help!

Not sure if this will help:

http://support.sas.com/techsup/unotes/SN/017/017783.html

Anytime I see an uncommon error message, I usually go to support.sas.com,
and search the message by pasting it in the search window. 90% chance I
can find my answer.

The SAS support tech notes lists at least one match based on your
symptoms, for a Unix machine:

Also, a general Google search using the search string SASXKINI reveals
several hits. Good luck.

That sounds as if in your default config-file (I assume it is the SASroot-
file SASV8.cfg) there is a wrong path for your WORK library. That should be
changed to a drive, you have write access to. If you cannot edit that file,
search it and copy it to a local disk. Then create a SAS icon with the SAS
call like:

X:\sas\sas.exe -config c:\sas\sasv8.cfg

where x: is the network-drive and \sas\sas.exe is the path to the SAS
start-file. c:\sas is a local directory, you should create and also create

c:\sas\saswork\
c:\sas\sasuser\

and inser that in your copied cfg-file instead of the drive:\path for the

-WORK option.

What you can also try:

use

x:\sas\sas.exe -work c:\sas\saswork\ -sasuser c:\sas\sasuser\

Maybe it is necessary to include the options in single quotes - don't know.
Tell us, what are the results and what you tried, if it doesn't work.

Other have made good suggestions.

I'll just ask why you are installing 8.0 *now*. 9.1.3 has been available for
3 years or so. If for some reason you must use version 8, 8.2 would be the
preferred release for production work.
