Hi rn5a,

If you have v5 sucessfully installed you can repair/upgrade it to v6 with
this run command

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE

(runs the IE Maintenance utility)

(though this seems to have been changed on my Win2K machine)

Regards.

No I DIDN'T format & install Win2K. I REPAIRED Win2K after which IE6 is
refusing to install.

Sir could you PLEASE give me a solution to resolve this problem? I am
on the verge of losing my job just because IE6 is refusing to install.

From: rn5a on
I tried running

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE

but it says

Error in setupwbv.dll
Missing entry:IE

Rob, using the following

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE /g "C:\WINNT\IE Uninstall Log.txt"

I was given 3 options - Add a component (which was disabled), Repair
Internet Explorer & Restore the previous Windows configuration.

I tried to repair but saying that IE cannot be repaired due to the
following reasons:

Version 5.0.2929.0 of file BROWSELC.DLL exists, but the version needs
to be greater than 6.0.2462.0
Version 5.0.2929.0 of file BROWSEUI.DLL exists, but the version needs
to be greater than 6.0.2462.0
Version 5.0.2929.0 of file SHDOCVW.DLL exists, but the version needs to
be greater than 6.0.2462.0
Version 5.0.2929.0 of file SHLWAPI.DLL exists, but the version needs to
be greater than 6.0.2462.0

So I can't even repair IE.

PLEASE....PLEASE....PLEASE.....someone PLEASE give me a solution to
install IE6 before I lose my job.

Correct. Because of your repair you regressed those modules
to whatever versions of them the repair gives for the version of IE
e.g., perhaps as low as the one that was installed originally with the OS.
Then when you tried to do your SFC the newer versions from the
various service packs and updates would have been wiped out,
so it wouldn't have been able to work properly either.

Unfortunately the DLL Help Database doesn't even document
that version so I'm wondering if your repair disk was created by
a slipstreamed process?

Hmm... I can find only one reference to that version and unfortunately
it doesn't help clarify which version of the product they are thinking of:

http://www.apwu.org/dept/ind-rel/USPS_hbks/AS-Series/AS-600%20USPS%20Certification%20Practice%20Statement%202-01%20(170%20KB).pdf

(Live Search for
"5.00.2929.0000"
)

In any case, I think that you may be able to use KB318378 to install IE6sp1a
in your W2K. Other users of that OS have reported that the procedure
worked for them but I don't know exactly what their starting point was.

Good luck
