Hi there from Italy,

I have a pc without any kind of peripheral, so i would install windows xp on
this machine making this moves:

I disconnect the Hard disc from machine 1 (without peripherals like
cd-dvd-floppy-usb)
I connect hdd to new machine and i copy folder i:\386 on hdd

At this point i would have disconnect Hdd from complete machine and
reconnect it
on the machine without peripherals, so start installation from hdd.

Ok...but...how i can start this pc without an O.S.?

Is There a solution? Anyone knows a method?

Thank to all of you.

Jay

Those files will need to be on a primary, active fat32 partition.

The drive must also be put into a machine where you can run the "sys"
command

You can do that by disconnecting all other drives...
then booting with a win98 floppy and issuing the command sys C:

one other thing you must do is copy smartdrv to the HD

now you can put the drive in the machine you wish to install toand it should
boot to the C:
prompt.

the first thing you must do is load smartdrv

if you copied it to the root directory simply issue the command
smartdrv

now you can navigate over to the i386 folder and begin your setup by issuing
the command winnt

once XP is up and running you can convert the drive over to NTFS if you wish

How about buying a CD-ROM drive? They're very cheap.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and problems: Buy a CD reader and boot from
an XP CD.
