With Opensuse 11.2 KDE4 how do you get an icon from the desktop
to the desktop folder? It seems to go under the folder and not
into it.

Right click on the folder area. You'll get a menu.
Add a "link to application" or whatever
it is that you want.

Why can't you just slide one in there?

Because sliding is not allowed. Neither is running with scissors.
