My MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa chipset, model MacBookPro2,2) needs a new
battery, again. I bought a supposedly new one off eBay a while back and
have never been happy with its performance (despite CoconutBattery
implying that it was new) and suspect that I may have been 'had' in some
way. It was much cheaper than most others I found, so I guess it maybe
was "too good to be true".

This time I don't want to make the same mistake. Should I go for an
official one from the Apple Store (a hundred quid!), is there a
reputable supplier of official batteries at a less eye-watering price,
or are there reputable third-party batteries which perform better than
the official battery (I'm assuming improvements in battery technoogy
since my now ancient Mac was introduced)?

Thanks,

-zoara-
