I watched the end of the download and it checks the checksum - successfully,
so it arrived here OK and wrote it to my USB drive OK , but fails to read it
properly ???? I did a copy of the iso from USB drive toan internal drive
and - same thing. at 97% done - gets an error. I checked errorlog and now I
see hundreds of ERROR 51:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 51
Description: An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a
paging operation.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I clicked the msft link and it says - if you get a lot of these replace the
device: if not - ignore the error. Great - what does it MEAN ? IS there a
hw problem or not ??

The usb drive is a WDC Mybook , so I went to wdc.com to check support area.
No mention of the error. I figured I'd check for latest firmware. I can't
read the microscopic p/n on the drive and thought they'd have a "find my WDC
drive info" link - nope.
I put in the windows dev mgr description (10EADS) and what it returns are
articles related to the 1Tb SATA drive inside the MYbook. The first thing I
see when looking at firmware online to fix known issues is : BACKUP all your
data. YEah I bought 2 external Mybooks FOR backup and they want me to buy a
few more so I can backup prior to new firmware. I hadn't had a need for WDC
support until now - I'm not impressed.
I'll download WHS V2 again later tonite and save to an internal disk.

Saved to internal IDE drive - fine - burned/verified no problems.

Front USB ports are notorious for low power levels with 2 devices
plugged in. Back ports have better connection.

It's in the back .. In the drive's USB setting see that it's setup to be
'portable' rather than setup for better throughput. Saving the file seemed
OK, it's when retrieving the data to burn a DVD that it failed. Next time I
have a project, I'll set to "better throughput" to see if it matters. Not
sure if drive or port " error retrieving data" would make me think the drive
my otherwise no errors.
Just a heads up to others - if you get the problem try changing the drive
setting to "better performance" rather than "portability".

Your hard drive might be failing if its not the interface to the hard
drive (on the mybook).
I tend to buy hard drive's and put them in enclosure's myself or use
my "Sharkoon Drive port pro" seems that the 2.5" HDD's don't last as
long as there 3.5" brothers.

you should check the drive and return it if it is failing here is WD's
Warranty and returns section:
