Need Help with DVD writer

From: Larry on 24 Jun 2010 23:34 I got this error message "HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55n (Seek,Synch,ATIP a mechanical positioning error-Hardware error(04/09/03). Dimension 8200 1.9 1gb. Top unit dvd-rom , second is dvd writer (LG) connected with 40 pin original cable (replaced cd-r burner) in CS (cable select). Is the LG going bad?. Thanks Larry

The "easy fix" that works every now and again is to limber up the drive's mechanism by reading the entirety of a full CD (~700MB). Sometimes this will do it. Other times, you need to get inside and see what's going on. You might find a dust bunny causing problems in some way or another. William
