On O2 PAYG. Keep on getting text messages today from "O2 Alert" telling me
to go to www.02.co.uk and insert a verification number when request "to
enable me to use text services". Different verification number in each
message. Wondered what it's all about as I've been happily texting for
several years .............

Someone is on the O2 website entering your number on purpose or by mistake
to try and enable text alerts or to enable them to send text messages via
their site using your number.

Mmmmmmm no, someone will stop entering it when they realise their mistake.
If it's malicious it stops for 48 hours after 3 attempts.
