From: JohnJohn on
Hello. I am receiving the error in the subject line at compilation on the
following declaration within a form file:

Dim rsBanks as ADODB.Recordset.

I have a reference in the project to the Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects 2.7
Library. Meanwhile, an earlier-created executable from this project
continues to run properly using this library. There have been no updates to
MDAC.

Frustrated, I created a brand new project identical to the one that is
failing with the "Object library not registered" error, and it too, had the
same error. I can however, create a brand new project, add a reference to
the library, create an ADODB.Recordset object successfully. Moreover, I can
add the very same form file that receives the error to a new project, and
there will be no error.

For what it's worth, I also receive a "Method '~' of object '~' failed"
error upon loading the project. I know this may not be enough information,
but if you can point me to what information you might need to help me resolve
this, I will love you forever and ever, amen. I will also copy and paste the
..vbp file after I sign my name.

Thanks!
John

Are there any project references that are listed as "MISSING" in the References list?

Based upon your description it sounds like a problem with a COM library other than ADO.

Paul,

Thanks for your reply! I JUST found where my problem lies. There aren't
any references listed as "MISSING". We have one Data Environment object in
the project and several Data REport objects. The error is associated with
the Data Environment object. I removed that obect from the project and the
problems I described below vanished. However, when I attempt to add a new
Data Environment into the project, I get the following:

System error &H0004005 (-2147467259). Unspecified error.

Now I gotta track that down. I'm wondering if I just need to reinstall
VB...that somehow something related to Data Evironments was corrupted.

Thanks,
John

I've probably just never seen it... but this line looks "suspicious".
Object=Excel.Sheet.8; EXCEL.EXE

....and, just for kicks, you might want to try starting a new project and
just drop an ADODC control on the form and check the references list. It
should add a reference to the correct ADO library version for that control.

Also, if you have the source for the "one that works", compare its list of
references against the ones you posted..

Since this is happening while loading the project, you may have some DLL
Hell going on with VB add-ins too. Use the add-in manager to remove any
add-ins you don't use every single day.

Windows Update can almost be considered a virus these days too. It'll
"sneak" in new Office components, VB/SP6 components, etc, etc, and never
tell you it did so until it's too late.

There's your answer.

Never mind signing it. (?) Load it into notepad and compare it to the
project file that allows the form to load.
