PowerMax if your going Maxtor; testdisk, hdat2, mhdd, and several
others provide various tests and diagnostics, and/or Seagate Seatools
since Maxtor is now Seagate.

SeaGate -- SeaTools

Generate a CDROM from their ISO image and boot from it and check your disk.

Yes, the PowerMax is also there as well as Seatools - that's why I am
waiting for help in their forum.
