From: Anders Persson on 28 Jun 2010 20:02 In case you haven't seen it: http://user.tninet.se/~jad615g/prgstarter/ It analyses emulator files and starts the right emulator (c64, vic-20, c128, plus/4 etc.) with the right settings. Supported files: prg, p00, p01, p02, p03, d64, d41, d71, d81, t64, tap, crt, seq, s00, s01, s02, s03... It can also display some picture formats (MiniPaint (Vic-20), Koala Painter (C64), Doodles (C64), Wigmore Artist (C64) and C64 FLI pictures starting at $3C00 and $3B00). It can also display various text files and extract the text out of any file. You can also use if for saving out prg and seq files from disk and tape images, or to change the starting address of prg files etc, etc... PRG Starter is probably the fastest tap->prg conversion tool out there (it's a matter of milliseconds) and maybe the only tap->seq converter in existence. Take a look! Anders
From: Sean Huxter on 29 Jun 2010 08:06 It would not associate any of the file extensions, asking me to do it manually. Not a great start. Ran it after that, and it tries to access the internet. TWO FAILS. Why should I trust this program if the setup can't work and it tries to send something across the internet? It's behaving very like a Trojan Horse. Needless to say, I blocked it from accessing the net. Sean. From: Sean Huxter on 29 Jun 2010 08:14 PLEASE IGNORE PREVIOUS POST. Somehow when I set it up, my Windows Setup was trying to protect me from trojans, and when I unchecked that box (not something I normally do for a program I just now found out about) the setup DID work. And it does appear to work correctly when it DOES set itself up right. My apologies for the previous post. I had no idea why this wasn't working, and it was behaving VERY suspiciously. Why is the program trying to access the internet? Sean. From: Sean Huxter on 29 Jun 2010 08:20 Sorry to be spamming the group. Not my normal habit. I opened a .d81 with Koala files on it (.prg) and when I selected one of the Koala files and hit "Disk tool" it opened up a Vic 20 emulator. Is there a way to reconfigure this to open a different emulator? This is a general question anyway, as I USUALLY use my 128 emulator, and would like to be able to run things using the 128 eumulator by default for some files. (I do GEOS development on the 128) Sean. About the internet access - From the latest release notes/News: "* PRG Starter now automatically checks for updates. (Windows only). If there is an update available, a message will be written at the end of the text in the main window. PRG Starter only contacts the update server the first time you use PRG Starter in the day. This is done in the background so you won't notice anything. No data is collected from your computer. The system also allows me to post various messages in the main window, for example letting you know if I'm working on a new version or something like that." There is a huge amount of programs checking for updates so I didn't think that would make people that suspicions. I guess you aren't using the default Windows firewall because it doesn't say anything here at all. About disk images - You should double click the title you want to open. Pressing "disk tool" is an extra feature to manipulate disk images. From "Tips & Tricks": "If there is more than one file in a disk image, a directory window is opened. If you double click a file (or marking the file and then press Start), then this file will be analyzed and started in VICE. If you keep PRG Starter's main window open when you later close VICE, this directory will re-appear with last opened file pre-selected. If you didn't start a specific file, but instead just pressed "Start", then the first file ("*") will be loaded in VICE and the directory window will not re-appear. Pressing "Sort" will sort the file list. Pressing "Disk tool" will open the disk image in a disk tool in VICE. It allows you to rename and delete files etc. When you close this tool, the directory window will re-appear." If you want to force files to be loaded with the c128, then either rename the files and put in "(c128)" in the file name, or use the Scroll-Lock key to go into override mode.
