She may not thank you. Adapters can suffer infant mortality, and they
mask several other problems. When I got my XPS M1330 laptop 2 1/2
years ago, problems surfaced after a couple weeks that were diagnosed
as being caused by something internal to the laptop and a technician was
sent out. He replaced this and he replaced that, much to Dell's profit loss.
When problems persisted, Dell put a senior diagnostics person on the case,
and she quickly concluded that it was the power adapter, and a technician
who had already been dispatched, brought the new one of a different brand
to me. To my mild surprise, that took care of the problems. A year later,
looking for a spare power adapter for use at the office, I combed the
Web and found the usual "compatibles" at a much lower price on eBay.
But I stuck with the brand that worked, and it hasn't let me down. So
what did Dell do with the power adapters that were failing quickly? I
suspect that they ended up on eBay.

Actually I thought of this. It's hard to find an exact tho even her
original is made in China. I'm not that concerned to be honest. I
probably will give her one of my spares now should the new one fail.
Thanks.

The one I received from eBay was a new Dell branded one and is still
working. The AC cord was inferior (intermittent open) and I used the
old one I had.

I doubt the new one will be Dell branded but we'll see. I appreciate
what you say and told my daughter before your post to save the old
adapter in case of faulty cords especially the one from the adapter to
the laptop (fitting). Thanks Bob.
