:)I now bought all the necessary ingredients, so I'm all set for my
planned upgrade - that is, from what my present signature shows, to
this:

Hardware:
- New mobo, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7, X58
- New RAM, DDR3 6144MB Mushkin PC3-12800 (3x2048MB) 6-8-6-24 1.65V
REDLINE
- New Processor, i7 930
- New cooler, Megahalems, rev B
- New fan for Megahelems, Ultrakaze 3000 rpm.
- New additional harddisk , 300 GB WD VelociRaptor 10.000 rpm (entirely
dedicated to MS flight simulator FSX)

Software:
- Windows 7, Ultimate 64 bit.

New HD Configuration:
- No RAID - that is, leaving one of the two existing HD from Dell
entirely for the new Windows 7 OS.

All very nice - but in order to do a successful install, all together,
what would be the correct installation order here?? :o

A "correct install order", implies you're keeping something from the
old build.

The Windows 7 DVD will likely insist on doing a clean install.

What I'd do, is just plug in the VelociRaptor, and install the OS on that
disk. Then, your OS will be on a fast disk, and probably won't use
up enough of the 300GB, to be an issue otherwise. Don't even bother
to partition it.

After the install is finished, plug in any old disks, to be used for
data. Like perhaps your download folder or whatever, could go on
the slower disk.

Something to check:
When I was shopping my i7 rig I noted that these X58 chipset boards are
quite strict on 1.5v memory. You may have problems using 1.65v memory on
that motherboard.
Like I said, check into this. I built mine one year ago, so things may
have changed. But a quick look at Gigabytes website shows the 1.5v spec
is still there for that board.

It goes without saying, but whatever you do make sure you back up the
data you want to transfer from the old hard drive before you begin
your upgrade.

Test bare bones first, with just enough hardware installed to verify
that it works properly. IOW install the CPU, CPU cooler, one memory
module, one video card (preferrably not a high performance one), power
switch, reset switch, keyboard, monitor, and power supply. Set up the
high-temperature safety shutdowns in the BIOS, then run a memory
diagnostic (MemTest86 ver. 3.xx from www.MemTest86.com, MemTest+ 4.xx
from www.MemTest.org, or Gold Memory 5.07 from www.GoldMemory.cz).
The memory should work perfectly at its stock settings. BTW, don't
accept DDR3 memory specified for more than 1.50V (or 1.35V if the
motherboard uses low voltage DDR3). Add one memory module at a time
and repeat, and test all the memory overnight, preferrably with at
least two different memory diagnostics.

Testing everything at once is a good way to make it harder to pinpoint
problems and easier to blow up more expensive hardware.
