Folks

I have a problem on an installation I have just "inherited" where the
recipient update service is set to a decommissioned server...

As such I can't seem to be able to change it through the GUI - it
times out with an "RPC Server in unavailable" when trying to set the
correct server.

What would be by best course of action to solve this ?

This is a Windows 2003 / Exchange 2003 SP2 site.

Any pointer / suggestion most welcome

Regards

You should be able to change the "msExchAddressListServiceLink"
property on the RUS with either ADSIEDIT or LDP.

The domain RUS is found here:

CN=Recipient Update Service (XXXXX),CN=Recipient Update
Services,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=XXXXX,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=XXXXX,DC=com

The value is the DN of the server. E.g.:

CN=SRVR004,CN=Servers,CN=First Administrative Group,CN=Administrative
Groups,CN=XXXXX,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=XXXXX,DC=com

If you have to change the DC, that's a bit more complicated.

Thanks for your help. I'm afraid I'm not too proficient with ADSIEdit.
Where would I find this entry ? Don't seem to have a search
facility...

There's no search. :-)

I gave you the distinguished name of the domain RUS (you just have to
substitute your domain and organization name where there's "XXXXX".

Once you locate the RUS, examine it properties. They're in
alphabetical order.
