Can the Gantt bars for each activity in a "Group by" group be rolled up to
the overall Group summary bar? The Group By Summary bars look just like the
ones for Summary activities, but bars do not roll up there. Has anyone seen a
native or a programmed way to do that roll up?

An important view for my project shows the activities to which each of a set
of (non-multitasking) resources are assigned. I can show it doing a "Group
by" Resource Names and filtering for the resources that I am interested in,
and it would be great if I were able to show it as just one rolled-up summary
per Resource.

I am not entirely sure I understand your question.

1) You can group by Resource Names - albeit with the caveat that only one
resource should be assigned to the task, as otherwise the grouping gets a
bit wacky.
2) You can roll up the activities using the options in Format > Layout
3) You can modify the Summary rollup bar to appear any way you want by doublclicking
on the Gantt Chart and choosing *Group By Summary

I can get one summary task per resource without difficulty by playing with
the settings above.

If that doesn't meet your needs, there're any number of third party reporting
tools that will do swimlanes by resources - particularly when you have multiple
resources assigned to tasks. I saw a demo of OnePagerPro by Chronicle Graphics
which seems to do exactly that.

Thank you, Andrew. I was trying to roll up by checking the "Roll up Gantt bar
to summary" in Task Information, but that does not seem to work with Group by
Summaries. Your suggestion does work indeed.
