I keep getting a pop-up window at logon that says:
"Scheduled agent cannot create shell notification icon"

Subsequently check the error log and see repeated messages that read:

"AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address
(0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could
lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical
assistance."

Any assistance will be very highly appreciated...

Your BIOS may be corrupt, or need updating to handle ACPI (standby features)

run setup again, and press F-7 at the 'Press F-6 for RAID' prompt. This will disable ACPI and enable APM
