I cannot find a forum for Windows 7. Yet it was released towards the end of October last year. This in mind. A couple of concise queries as follows.....

Whether anyone in this forum knows of a service patch or two for Windows 7.
If whether a forum, does, or about to exist for Windows 7.

Reason for my request is that I have Windows XP SP3 Professional edition and that my laptop might have to undergo a reload. Also, the write up on Windows 7 looked good.

Meanwhile. If anyone could help to this respect with a view of saving costs, then this would remain appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Michael Feldman

Ps. What I mean by costs is, that if a patch is available for Windows 7, then it remains sensible for one to 'bite the bullet' and go for the later version of Windows.

Forum? You just looked in the wrong place. Although the Microsoft
Newsgroups are a type of forum; they are not the only forum(s) out there
and - as a matter of fact - they will be (officially) discontinued very
shortly.

As for your concise queries - use question marks. ;-)

First "query with no question mark": Windows 7 does not even officially have
a Service Pack 1 yet ("pack", not "patch" BTW) - much less a Service Pack 2
(sequentially after Service Pack 1.)

Second "query with no question mark": Forum - yes. Newsgroup (officially
Microsoft sanctioned), no.

Unasked question, but I suppose *could* be assumed, in relation to the
second one: "Where is said forum for Windows 7?" ( Answer:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/forums/default.mspx )

Will your laptop with Windows XP SP3 installed handle the extra resource
load requested by Windows 7? I would not even consider upgrading to Windows
7 on that specific hardware if you do not at least have a Core 2 Duo or
newer processor, 2+GB memory (preferrably 3+GB) and a 80+GB hard drive
(120+GB preferred.) Although some might insist on 128+MB memory video
device (as we are speaking of a laptop - is your video memory shared or
independent?) that is truly dependent on what you are planning on using the
laptop for IMO.

In reguards to your "P.S." explanation - still makes no sense to me.
Whether or not Windows 7 has a Service Pack of any sort (1 or 2) out for it
should not factor into the decision. Whether or not the laptop can handle
it - that's the big thing. Whether or not you need it, that's just as big.

In their infinite wisdom (...), MS decided that there would be no newsgroups for Win7, only forums: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windows7

MS will be dropping all public newsgroups (including this one) from their newsserver by 01 October 2010; cf. http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/default.mspx

Win7 SP1 is now in private beta; cf. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproSP/thread/87d87964-b906-4903-b785-0e6d03e95108
