Our NAS has been consistently receiving the following backup errors. I
was wondering if an open file agent is required, or if there is a
configuration setting missed. I did enable the Volume Shadow Copy on
our DC and the NAS to see if it helps.

Maybe you should google a search on how to setup Symantec AV to scan when
you ahve servers and databases - there are specific things you need to
exclude from scans, they are all detailed on the Symantec Website.

Most databases, access, MSSQL, echange, and places where files are temp
expanded for inspection are suppose to be excluded from being scanned.

If you are refferring to Symantec 11d then yes you will need to purchase the
open file backup extra, unlike NTBACKUP it is not included.
