I wondered what would happen if I let my Three PAYG credit in my S2
phone run out. On Friday I had just 60p left and decided to find out.

Unfortunately I was demonstrating what the S2 could do to my brother
over the weekend and logged into Facebook. Also unfortunately I then
inadvertantly left this logged in and the credit went right down
overnight (it refreshed too many incoming tweets).

Anyway today I tried to get the BBC News and suddenly the pages
refused to refresh. I looked and found that it had a small icon of a
mobile phone at the top with a red tick mark. I guessed that I'd run
out of credit. So I tried My3 to see if that that was the case - no
response. I then tried Skype (which you are supposed to still have
even after all credit has been used up) - but again no response. I
tried sending a normal mobile text (like for Twitter) but this got put
in the Outbox.

Then I noticed that there were suddenly no connection bars in the top
left corner. So when I got home I tried my Three dongle and it
connected OK as usual. But still the S2 showed no bars.

So it seems that when PAYG credit has gone to zero you can't use the
S2 phone to top up, use Facebook, use Skype or anything else.

Now I understood from Three's advertsising that even with no credit at
least Skype would work - but no - and it seems that Three effectively
removes all connections to/from the S2 and PAYG account, and indeed
completely disables the SIM.

If I find that this is the case then Trading Standards will be hearing
from me next week.

Three PAYG services seem to be bordering on fraud - also with the
charge for the retrieval of 'free' Skype voice mails at 15p a minute.

CJB.

No offence Chris, but why am I not surprised this happened to you?
The one that belongs to my son has been freeloading on Skype without
3 credit for most of the year.

I'll be interested to know if you get the problem resolved.

I've always found My3 accounts page works even if no other
webservice does due to zero credit, so you can at least top up.

Personally as it's only a fiver a month, i keep an extra month of
internet credited in case Three shorten my month internet for
excessive downloading.

So dust off a tenner from your never opened wallet and allocate
two lots of internet monthly, you can do it i have faith in you.

3's standards of customer service have been well trailed on this group.
