There's no difference in construction standard between USB1 and USB2
cables, they're the same thing.

Which doesn't mean all cables are created equally, but it should!

Nope, it means that any USB cable should be of *at least* a certain
spec; some are better. I.e., all USB cables are different, but they
should all be up to it.
