I believe I heard a segment of NPR last week where they talked about som
Business Centers at hotel and motels offering practically no virus
protection. I think they were mostly outside the US. Anyone know about
this or how to determine if such a place has adequate protection?

Insufficient information.

The anti virus application needs to be on YOUR PC.

All you are doing is using them as a temporary ISP. There you have to worry about other
types of security issues.
