My workaround was to set-up another email account with my normal internet
provider (Virgin Media/NTL) and configure GMail to forward any incoming
email to this account.

I then configured a new email account on WM6 to collection from
pop3.ntlworld.com (using NTL username & password) but send
smtp.googlemail.com (using my Google username and password plus SSL
encryption). I can't use NTL's SMTP server for sending as STMP servers only
typically allow access when you are connected via their internet connection.
Google's can be used from any ISP.

The NTL POP3 server behaves itself and works as expected. It does mean that
I have to delete emails off both my WM6 device and from home but that's a
small price to pay.

Cheers, Rob.

I've often elaborated on this Gmail-specific bug in my articles / posts. See
for example http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51900 for
a clean solution.

Glad it wasn't just me!! I've just found that "recent" solution offered by
GMail which looks like just the ticket.

Cheers, Rob.

BTW, there is another solution: use the Gmail MIDlet. It's EXCELLENT and far
better than anything else on your Pocket PC.

See my forthcoming MIDlet Bible, where I also elaborate on it. In the
meantime, see for example
http://www.modaco.com/content/Windows-Mobile-News/260559/GMail-Java-application-updated-to-version-1-5/ ,
paying SPECIAL attention to my compatibility remarks (that is: do NOT
install it under TAO or Esmerted Jeodek)
