well, it is a good idea to have a xp cd for a variety of
reason, not just for experimenting during the course
of your studies.

what I suggest is to first find out what the product key
is to the o.s. you have installed at this time.

you can use a freeware called "SIW" to scan your registry
for the product keys.

next I would review this for help with a replacement:

there is yet another option if you ascertain your product
key.

you might be able to do a repair install with a borrowed
xp cd.

use its product key to complete the task.

then once windows is installed, replace that product key
with the one you previously acquired.
