Hi TaurArian

I had problems with Windows Update also, giving me the "Windows can´t check
for updates" message each time, the progress bar kept going and going and
never stopped searching for updates...

I red your note here and tryed it, thinking that maybe would help, but it is
worst now.. I receive a message saying that Windows could not search for new
updates, and this:
Error found: Code 80070490 Windows Update encountered an unknown
error.

I tryed to set the file´s name back to how it was, but apparently it doesn´t
work this way...

Please, if you know what could I do in this case I will appreciate your
help! I´m worried about it :s :s

P.D: I checked other threads about this error and they suggest re-installing
the Operative System with the DVD or CD???? Mine came with my laptop (HP
Pavilion tx 1305us) without any CD or DVD!!!

Thanks in advance

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2;
Vista SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64-bit) when posting in a forum or
newsgroup. Please do so in your next reply.

Has another Norton application or a McAfee application ever been installed
on the computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you
bought it)?

Error message when you try to install updates by using the Windows Update
Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site: "0x80070422":

How do I reset Windows Update components?
[Access KB971058 via Internet Explorer (32-bit) only; Run the Fix It in
DEFAULT and AGGRESSIVE modes, then reboot]
