The messages below show what happens when I run chkdsk from time to time.
Please note that I run them one right after the other. Also not the error
message I get with the first run. Is this a bug in Windows XP Pro? When the
first run tells me to run chkdsk with the /F parameter I do and no error
show up. I stopped doing the "chkdsk /F" and run one chkdsk right after the
other. Can anyone explain this oddity?

A rough and ready answer is that the Chkdsk utility has fallen over it's own
open file in the prefetch cache on the first run. That makes some sort of
sense to me. I susoect that on the second run, Chkdsk is no longer in
prefetch, it is in RAM.

y'r right Ian, is exactly what is happening !!! chkdsk and other loads
programs on what

the first chkdsk gives errors, put somes down and the second run is OK !

this is the reason for the XP utility for checking the disk will do the
check

only at the next boot before loading some others f... residents.

Poor Gates, get sued, buy, make his mind to integrate some third party in
his system

and people still have the nostalgia to run staff from the black window.

Can anyone translate this into English? Or at least something that actually makes
sense?

<snip>

i had a similar problem with a machine i was working on about a year ago...
someone brought me a machine with a slightly corrupted harddrive...
even not using the /f parameter, chkdsk came up with different errors
each time i ran it...
it ended up being a subtle problem with the RAM . i ended up "fixing"
the problem by slighty undeclocking the machine

as a precaution you should run a RAM test and a harddrive diagnostic
