The good news, sneakemail has gone to v3.0:

The bad news, sneakemail is no longer free:

Existing free account holders have been switched to a 1 month free
trial, which expires on 28 December, thereafter it will cost $2/month.

FYI, half-an-hour ago I sent the following message to sneakemail:

Subject: Long-time free account user dismayed

I am a great fan of sneakemail and I have told a lot of friends about it
over the years. Yesterday one of those friends contacted me to point
out that at the end of December sneakemail will no longer be free, and
how inconvenient this is. I read your v3.0 announce page and I
understand your reasons, but I am dismayed that you have only given us a
month (without earlier warning) to subscribe to a paid account before
you cancel our free accounts. My subscription details and login
addresses to so many sites/utility companies etc. use sneakemail
addresses, and to untangle myself from my reliance on your service will
take more than a month! Would you please, please consider making it
something like 3 months for existing free account holders? I think the
goodwill created by such an act will mean that more free account holders
decide to take the plunge and start paying for your great service, than
if you just leave it at the 1 month unannounced free trial (I am
probably not one of those however, since I am really really tight, but I
genuinely think overall your will end up with more paying subscribers
with a 3 month rather than 1 month waiver for pre-existing free account
holders).

Also, if my friend hadn't contacted me, how would I have known that in
late December my sneakemail account is going to be cancelled? I have
received no email from you and I would have been unlikely to visit the
sneakemail website before then. If you were not going to already, may I
suggest that you email pre-existing account holder informing them of the
imminent cancellation of their accounts (or however you want to put
it...)?

Yours sincerely, and with great respect,
....

and just got the following reply from Kevin Swope:

Hello, the plan was to first launch, then do a million little fixes and
tweaks to make sure everybody is happy, then send out an announcement,
and probably reset the expiration date to be 1 month from that
announcement.
Honestly though, I don't think more than a month before expiration is
really that unreasonable.
