Open Internet Explorer (only) to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com | Select
CUSTOM and scan | Install any Critical Security Updates offered (e.g.,
KB980182; KB978542). If a Root Certificates update is listed in the
Optional Software updates category on the left-hand side of the scan results
window, install it to take full advantage of IE's enhanced security.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

I am using Avast free and MS security essentials
never had Norton, did have AVG free, but have removed
I did try to fool MS into letting me reinstall IE6+ using the method below
(from Bleeping computer.com)

Follow these steps for repairing Internet Explorer 6:
1. Click on the Start button and then click on the Run option.
2. In the Open field type regedit and press the OK button.
3. Navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
4. Under that key you will see a entry named IsInstalled. Right click on
that entry and left
click on Modify.
5. Change the Value from 1 to 0.
6. Exit regedit.
******************************
unfortunatly this will not work,
Have you any idea's as to how I could re-install IE6+ ?
