I solved selecting and copying (into memory) the existing pictures in pdf,
pasting in a new picture under Adobe photoshop elements
and saving as .... xxxx.jpg
Then "inserting pictures" from the files xxxx.jpg
into the frames Powerpoint.
Now the size of the .pps is alike the .pdf file.
