Yep, you're right ... the VIA Hyperion Pro v5.10a drivers solved the problem.
My system works with the new ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card now.
It's FAST as expected. However, there's a "minor" problem.
On bootup, I now get the following message ...

========================================

Cannot find a device file that may be needed to
run Windows or a Windows application.

The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to
this device file, but the device file no longer
exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose,
try uninstalling the associated application using
its uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application
associated with this device file,
try reinstalling that application to
replace the missing file.

viagart.vxd
Press a key to continue

========================================

The system boots fine after pressing a key.

There's no reference to "viagart.vxd" in C:\Windows\SYSTEM.INI

Go to Start -> Run and type "regedit". Then select Edit -> Find and
search for "viagart".

I'm betting you'll find an orphaned reference to "viagart" at this
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD

Yes, the minor problem was resolved by deleting the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\VIAGART

Thanks to all for helping me resolve this problem. Really appreciate it.
