I followed your recommendation and it went through the motions of
uninstalling the earlier versions(if they existed). Now we will see
if it solves the problem I was having.

Now I have another question. I have old versions of Word Perfect and
Lotus 123 that I have had installed on this computer. These programs
are on diskettes. I have used them extensively and have numerous
files with the documents I have created. I need to get a new
computer because my 433Mhz is just not fast enough to play the youtube
videos that I like. Since the new computers do not have disk readers,
how do I get my Word Perfect and Lotus onto the new computer?

Several Options

1. Buy a USB floppy drive and use it.

2. Copy the data files to a flash drive or CD/DVD. There are many
programs on the internet to read Lotus 123 or Word files.

3. Depending on program age they may not use the registry and you can
just copy the directories to a flash drive then copy to new computer.
I have done this with several programs from Win95/98 and am using them
on a Windows 7 system.

4. Copy the program floppys to a flash or CD/DVD drive using folders
for each disk if multiple disk programs and install on new system.

5. (Or 1) If you have a NIC card in the old system use it to connect
the new computer and transfer the data/programs to new system. If you
don't have a NIC in the old system get one ($10).

You go to a local computer-parts store and spend $10 to buy a floppy
disk drive and $2 for a cable and you connect the floppy drive to the
floppy controller connector that's on the motherboard of the new
computer that you're going to buy.

The floppy isn't totally dead, but yes it's hard to find an off the
shelf system with one anymore. What versions are Lotus and WP?

From: Jack on
THanks for the reply. I have a card reader on my 98 machine where my
Lotus now resides. Actually I have Release 5. I also have a SD card
reader that I use for backup. Can I just copy all the files from the
floppy's on to an SD card and then, when I want to install it on a new
computer(without a floppy) simply connect the card reader to the USB
port, find and double click the Install.exe file?

My Word Perfect is Version 6.1 and the file that installs it is
Setup.exe. Can I do the same thing as above for this?

Will these old versions of the Lotus and WordPerfect install and
operate on the new computers with Windows 7? I was able to install
them on my XP machine through its floppy reader. .
