QED: Why did you need to re-register that MS Script Runtime DLL in the first
place?

Not to stir up the pot but it's not exactly QED. It's quite possible
in a lock-down environment to end up in this state. Ever hear of
DoD? In any event Arnoldkrg's approach fixed the problem at my site
as well. Your statement about malware and viruses was unuseful and
actually borders on unprofessional.

And yet you did.

Quite the contrary. OP made no mention of "lock-down environment" in any of
his posts and it's entirely possible that an infection (possibly an ongoing
one) had disabled or even replaced that MS Script Runtime DLL.

From: arnoldkrg on
I dont think I was in a lockdown environment, but I had seen suggestions here
and elsewhere that this type of problem may be associated with a problem with
registration of parts of VB Script. I had already tried reinstalling as I
said in my first post but that didnt fix the problem. I had also followed
advice found in the windows support site to reregister another part of
VBScripting (cant remember which part now). I found a reference via Google to
re register the runtime dll and this finally worked. BUT I refer you to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311269 which is headed:

BUG: You receive an "ActiveX component can't create object" error message
when you Use Windows Script Host to execute remote script.

Their solution didnt work for me. Maybe I just fell foul of this or a
similar bug.

I use several malware and spyware and antivirus products and have not had
anything serious found in years.

BUT at least our discussions did help someone.

Great! A solution, at last. Thanks, arnoldkrg

I've been wasting my time with this issue too and others have posted
elsewhere in this forum with the same patronising response from PA Bear.
Check your facts, man.

Looks like it back to the drawing board for the MS Fixits.
