That's what I was afraid of ..... A friend gave me this laptop ..... Can I
use my old windows XP single disc that came with an old Compac computer?

Often, yes. Use the Key Code affixed to your current laptop... I would
attempt a Repair installation. It leaves your applications as workable
copies without reinstalling them.

If a Repair doesn't work, a Reinstallation can be done and several
applications will need to be re-installed.

You may need to make a current copy by slipstreaming your old XP disc.
