I searched on Google *before* posting my question. I didn't understand the
answers on Google. That's why I posted the question.

Thank you Shenan. From your answer it seems *I* don't *use* it in the sense
of me doing something with it, unless I perform some action such as writing
software. However programs already installed on my PC may need it and use
it. Have I got that right?

I didn't find this so clearly stated on Google as you have in your response.
Perhaps you should write an article for us entitled "How To *Answer*
Questions The Smart Way". You seem to have the know-how.
