Yes, it's there now, one more removal and installation seems to have
brought it back!

Not at all, not having the box means the installation is faulty, it
needs to be fixed before anything else goes wrong.

Just a couple of clicks turn the sounds off but I normally run with my
speakers turned off.

Even if the sounds are selected in the Windows Sounds control panel,
Quicken will not have any sound if the option in Quicken preferences is
not checked.
