I am having the same exact problem. I just upgraded a user from
Outlook 2003 to 2007, and these options are grayed out. The specific
area affected is "When correcting spelling in Outlook."

Keith - whatever you do don't run the Outlook 2007 repair from Control Panel
- I did that and it completely corrupted Outlook 2007. I then uninstalled
Outlook 2007 and installed Outlook 2003 and I have errors everywhere - such
as not sending automatically, messages saying Outlook 2003 not installed
properly, ODBC database link errors and OLE errors when I click Send/Receive.
Proofing problem now seems liek a good thing :(

Has anybody found the solution to this yet? I'm having the same problem after
our Hosted Exchange provider upgraded our Outlook 2003 licences to Outlook
2007 (the rest of our Office suite remains at 2003 version).

Now most of the Proofing/Autocorrect options in Outlook 2007 are greyed out.

Interestingly, if the first thing you do after launching Outlook 2007 is to
go to the Autocorrect options then they are available. However any changes
you make have no effect, and when you next launch Outlook the settings are
back to their default.
