This issue is about getting the Working Days Report to "correctly" display the dates and times in the calendars.

I have a MSP2007 file which has a custom Calendar, made by copying the Standard Calendar, and then changing the working hours (to 07:00 - 12:00, 12:30 - 19:00) for working days (Monday - Friday) and blocking out some non-working Exception dates, all the usual stuff.

When it comes to setting up the working hours with the Work Weeks tab, there are two options.
The first is to select the Default, then Details, fill in the hours for each day (or select all Mon-Fri and do them all together).
This works, and the Working Days Report shows the correct days and hours.

The second option, which of course is the one that I tried first, is to leave the Default alone and make a new named entry (eg "11.5 Hours x 5 Days") on the line under Default, give it a date range which spans the whole duration of the project, and use Details to fill in the hours for each day.
This works to the extent that tasks get scheduled correctly, but the Working Days Report does not show the 07:00 - 12:00, 12:30 - 19:00 working hours (although it does show the blocked out exceptions).

The calendar is set as the Project Calendar and also as the base calendar for the resources.
It is easy to test that it works with a task that starts and finishes at the right time and skips non-working days, and it does work.

So what is this? Functioning as designed for good reasons, or the other thing? Software glitch or user misunderstanding?
