Hello,
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=12686
This has been suggested before. Don't worry, I made the same mistake
you did, but there is a website for this reason.

Sorry if I am in the wrong place with this suggestion or if it has been made
before. I've only started using OO and today had the need to use multiple
sheets. What would be nice is to see the names of the sheets on each sheet
or better still on tabs like MS does it in Excel. Is this possible?

Dear Adam:

Yes this is not only possible but a lot more.

In the page formatting area there are sub-panels for each of the heardes
and footers. Added to that, each of these has separate spaces for left,
center and right justified content.

Each of these 6 areas can then contain almost any text content
imaginable, accommodating different fonts, Language settings, colours,
formatting codes, fields, etc.

That gives you a huge set of choices, but you will need to take some
real time up front to learn how to use all that stuff.

- And that is only for the small spreadsheets. when you need to manage
100 sheets in one file, and the depth of a sheet can reach 1800 lines,
with formulae that run off the edit line, you will need to use one or
more reporting summary sheets, with hyperlinks and more formulae to get
your summary data into each of the summary sheets, which will likely
need to be differently formatted to accommodate the diverse needs of
multiple superiors and/or colleagues.

Eaxamples of this range from sales force tracking to inventory tracking
with automated total vaue calculation (including compensatrion for
multiple currencies, and weights and measures both English and metric)
and more.

If your buisness does batch formulations based on recipes by weight
(with volumetric ingredient conversion where needed) and has to
normalise these batches when QC starts adding adjustment adds to the
formula, yet in the end you need to have a specific batch size to
accomodate process machinery, that also can be done (another of my bag
of tricks).

With this, you can then calculate the total inventory demand for a
client's order and pre-assign the inventory, getting warned if you need
to purchase added ingredients prior to producing the number of batches
required to fill the order.

Finally, when you have to produce hard copy or (preferred) .PDF reports,
your header and footer cosmetics can make them look as pretty as you want.

Please excuse me if I don't really understand the request here.  I've opened calc (OOo) spreadsheets on both my ubuntu mini-pc running OOo 2.4 and my vista notebook pc running OOo3.1, and note that there are tabs at the bottom of the page for sheets 1, 2 and three.  I can manuever among them freely with one click and readily copy and paste from sheet to sheet(s).  I can also do an independent second sheet added to sheet 1.  don't know of a limit to such sheets.  The name of the file could reflect the content of the various spreadsheets.  Mostly, however, I open some 10 or 12 spread sheets and tables at the same time, maneuver among them through the window tool, if Im just using OOo, and with the hp key on my mini, and the bottom of the screen toolbar on the vista.  Don't know how excel does it.  I also run Firefox and KompoZer at the same time and copy and paste as I see fit.
Hopes this helps,
carl

Thank you so much Carl for your response. I searched and found hidden to the
left of the the bottom horizontal scroll bar was the tabs. I dragged
the horizontal scroll bar to the right so that I could see the tabs and this
is what I wanted. So again thank you so much for your reply. Thank you Bruce
also for leading to this answer.

Kind Regards
