OK here's an odd one - tell me what's going on here - XP Pro system.

I have a 1 TB seagate USB drive - NTFS.

I also have a 512 MB Lexar (OfficeWorks) thumb drive - FAT32.

And a 4 GB Memorex Mini TD thumb drive - Fat32.

The Seagate and the Lexar can both be plugged into the USB on the PC
(any port) and no problem, both are recognised.

The Seagate and the Memorex can't coexist, as only the first one
plugged in will be recoognised.

In fact if the Memorex is plugged in first, the Seagate will spin up
and then shut down.

It is PC specific, because if I try the same trick on another XP Pro PC
there's no problem.

So there must be some setting in the first PC that is out of whack.
All drivers are latest for the board (Gigabyte).

Any ideas, and why just the Memorex ?

Plug the memorex in on it`s own,
and then uninstall it in device manager.
Remove it, and then plug in the others.
Re-insert the memorex and windows should
re-detect it without conflict.

If it`s still the same, there`s a registry setting
you`ll need to edit.

Did as you suggest, but no change.

I am beginning to wonder if this is an SP3 issue, as the other PC only
has SP2 on it.

Never seen this before.

I tried formatting the stick to NTFS but made no difference.

I also tried using different ports (front v back) but same issue.

Have you tried to re-format the Memorex thumb drive ?
