Anyone had a split on the edge of the base which matches the bits that
sticks out on the lid? I've had one replaced and now the replacement is
spitting. Seems to be a design fault which Apple recognized in e-mails
to me at the time of the first reply but to fail twice seems to suggest
they have not fixed it.

Known design fault, they'll keep fixing it if you keep taking it in.

They've fixed the design fault in the latest version of the
WhiteBook... not quite the same thing, really.

It never happened to either of mine, even with lots of travel, so I'm
not sure what behaviour actually makes it split beyond closing the lid
and carrying it around in a laptop bag.

I suspect it depends how you handle it, pick it up from the front and
you put pressure on the 'spines' on the lid and into the base. Otherwise
no problem. Classic design problem get enough people to handle it before
shipping and you fix it, otherwise it takes letters to the managing
director using phrases like merchandisable quality before someone in
Apple Europe agrees to pay the end supplier for the repair, hopefully as
it's less than a year since the last repair there will be no question.

The general experience here has been that Apple just swaps the cases
out without argument. Why do you think otherwise?
