Why don't they have a "close" option in the action box on the e-mail bibbon?
Did they think CLOSE would not be used very much???

Paul,

You can add it to QAT.

Open a message.
Right-click on the ribbon above the groups and choose customize quick
access toolbar
Select Office Menu
Select "Close" and choose add
You can also place the QAT below the groups.

Close enough? :)

From usability perspective, I almost never even open a message in its
own window. I use my reading pane almost exclusively.

I myself use ESC key, but many people use the X button in the upper right of
every window. Others use Alt+F4 out of habit (its Close in many programs
too.)
