A KVM switch is way more expensive, but there are situations (for
example, hardware configuration, OS installation or low-level
troubleshooting regarding the boot process) where VNC (which needs a
running OS to work) won't help.

But the monitors that don't hide that setting in the
second-next-to-last menu level are becoming less common each year.

The physical KVM will let you see the BIOS/boot process; VNC
won't. Most KVM's are local-only, but some lets you set up a
static IP address between two boxes so you can be anywhere.
