I've been setting up a new Fujitsu U1010 UMPC and after installing a 93Mb
Vista Update including the optional items, I found my screen resolution
dropped to 800 x 600 & couldn't be budged; I also had a Device problem
showing in my Display Adaptor suggesting another item was taking away its
resources. I'm glad I stumbled onto this site. I simply went to Device
Manager and System Devices where I found the ATI 3GIO Filter Driver and
uninstalled it. After a restart, the monitor resolution is back to 1024 x 600.

One problem remains... Why have I had 2 identical log-in buttons at start-up
since installing the Vista upgrades?

I had the same problme on my Dell XPS200 w/Intel 82945G graphics. I'm not
sure Why MS downloaded this update to my computer. I don't have an ATI
chipset, but this errant update really hosed up the computer.

I had to go into Device Manager and remove the ATI PCI Express (3GIO)
Filter Driver ("delete driver files" checked). After several minutes and a
couple of re-boots the system came up and reinstalled all the original
drivers (except video).

What a disaster! I'm really considering looking at a Mac.

Hi there,

I think you are missing the point: MS update drivers are in 99% of the case
older drivers than the manufacturers.

If your hardware works fine: leave it be working fine, only update if is is
neccasary because the hard ware is not working well.

Another driver will not make your hardware run 10% faster or better or make
your printer use less ink..

If you did not take the commonly spread advice, than try rolling back on the
driver, system restore or a repair.

Best regards,
Michel Denie

Windows Update is a Valuable Service, yes or no?
It's part of what we expect we're paying for when we install non-shareware OS.
I furthermore expect anything from the Windows Update pipeline to be at
least benign, if not beneficial; also self-limiting if attempted in
inappropriate context.

On my system, (On Windows Vista Home Premium, Acer Aspire AST690-UD214A,
Display adapter = onboard Intel 946GZ Express Chipset Family, ...) onboard
display driver was "crowded out" by the ATI PCI Express (3GIO) Filter Driver;
Device Manager show the Yellow Bang (!) and "resource conflict -- must remove
some other device" [inexact wording.]
