It is self-evident to any reasonable person. That unfortunately excludes the
"in group" around here.

Have you actually mixed on top of the line PA systems? The fidelity is
excellent and nuances between desks can be very detectable. Granted,
top end studio monitors would be a more ideal listening situation, but
don't underestimate the capability of a top notch & properly deployed
system. FWIW, the rig I was working on was at an outdoor venue with no
walls. Mix position was well within the pattern of the arrays.

I have, and find most pro level digital desk have a MUCH more open sound,
better dfinition and increased precision over even the best of the best old
school analouge products
one guys "warm" is another guys "mushy"
To me the midas sounds like it throws a thick wet blanket on all the mixes ,
which is why we can not make statments of FACT on subjective evaluations.

people who are "used to" the old school sound have a natural prefrence
twards it, as it sounds "like it always sounded"
Admittedly I have not owned a xl4/H3K so I do not have the decades
experiance with one, but to my ear they simply sound outdated and flat
give me a pm5d anyday, in fact Everyday.

You can't have good digital sound without good analogue front and back
ends. Mic amps come to mind in particular.

You don't seeem to know a lot about the technology.

Where did you get that daft idea ?

You don't know I've had formal education in electronics ( including a
specialist course for audio ) myself ? I spent 4 years at London
University doing exactly that. I've even had to correct lecturers
occasionally since I engaged in self-study since the age of about 14 and
knew more about certain aspects of the subject than they did.

And where do you get the idea I'm totally anti-digital ? I've designed
audio DSP hardware and written the code for it myself ! Have you ?
