I don't know that they do actually delete them. I think the Bigpond software
might just "move them" to a "deleted file" folder. Makes sense if you want
to buy a new key and watch the movie again. Don't have to redownload the
file.

FWIW I was reading about this the other day. About a Japanese hacker that
released some wmdrm cracking tools some time ago.

Well, if this software downloads and plays the video files, there's a
good chance that they are in some bizarre format that can't readily be
copied to DVD, and it wouldn't be difficult for the software to
disable or delete the file after a predetermined time.

But if and when this sort of system replaces video shops, you can bet
there will dozens of ways around it. There has been almost nothing
that has been unhackable.

As I understand it they are wmv files, and I believe the Bigpond software
requires that Windows Media Player 10 be installed on your pc.

I would be more worried about what is exactly in the "Bigpond Media Manager"
and what it does to your system once it's installed., it could be very much
like the Sony DRM setup by adding unremovable malware to your system.

Yes, I would be concerned about that to. I would want to know exactly
what it is, where it puts it, how big it is, exactly what it may do
apart from the obvious, and if it can be *completely" and easily
removed. And when it's all said and done, who the hell would want to
sit in front of a desktop PC and watch a movie?
