How to concatenate binary files? I have a series of .mov files that will play one after another, but there is an annoying pause between the files. I'd like to see what would happen if I concatenate the files together in order to get rid of the annoying pause. I tried "cp one.move three.mov; cat two.mov >> three.mov", but that didn't do what I want... 4 Nov 2006 11:13
timeoutd I'm currently using timeoutd to enforce one hour session limits on the internet computers at the local library. It is working fine with one exception - the staff would like to be able to override and give extra time to patrons who request it when there is no waiting line. timeoutd makes no provision for overrides. ... 3 Nov 2006 13:12
Upgrade FC3->FC6 without /usr All, I am attempting to upgrade from FC3 to FC6, but the installer is complaining about my /dev/hda having a "loop partition layout". I can either re-partition or ignore /dev/hda (which is /usr). Can I ignore /usr during installation and then just re-mount when it is complete, or does the installer touch /usr?... 25 Oct 2006 23:23
Ubuntu 6.06 on IBM T30 and modems Most of my teething problems are probably over with this system, but I still have no Internet access. I have no idea whether or not the internal modem can be made to work on Ubuntu, and how to set it up. If it is impossible, I can always use the serial port with my external modem, but I would prefer the internal ... 27 Oct 2006 16:13

Kaffeine seems to work fine. But I don't know how to make use of the Kaffeine Mozilla/Firefox plugin. The plugin files are installed under Firefox/plugins. I t... 25 Oct 2006 20:47
device eth2 does not seem to be present I have 3 NICs. It doesn't matter which card (driver) I alias as eth2, I get a error message like "sundance device eth2 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization." Sundance works fine when it is either eth0 or eth1. The same thing goes for the other drivers/cards. What is my problem? TIA, Duane ... 25 Oct 2006 21:49
What Linux? I'd like to use Linux since Windows 98 seems to be working very slowly on my elderly PC. I blame a lot of that on the need to run separate firewall and antivirus software. Have you any suggestions which Linux to use? I need to run a Canon i560 printer as a network printer - this PC will be used as a printer ... 24 Oct 2006 15:57
Getting started with Debian - help with Xwindows I've been meaning to install one of the Linux distros for some time, but when I decided to do it a few days ago it was apparent that the packaged distros I had were getting a bit old, so I set about a network installation of Debian. I downloaded floppy images and created bootable disks. Ran the installation and ... 25 Oct 2006 22:51
Changing IRQ assignment in Linux 2.6 [ Cross-posted to comp.os.linux.misc and comp.os.linux.hardware ] Hello, I have a system with several PCI cards. Two of these cards share an IRQ line even though there are free IRQ lines. The system acts in strange ways: refuses to cold boot, halt makes the system reboot, etc. The manufacturer of the flaky... 20 Oct 2006 21:53 |
