Hi:

Running SuSE 9.2 with all current patches/updates. PC - Celeron D 2.66 GHz
with 2 harddrives, 512 megs RAM (emachines T3624). I have a 20Gig external
USB harddrive that refuses to show up in My Computer. It used to - now its
stopped. Not sure when this happened but would appreciate some help in
troubleshooting.

I have looked in the hotplug area of etc/sysconfig Editor - but all seems
fine. The partitioner tool shows dev/sda1 so the system seems to recognise
it but is not automounting.

Any help appreciated!

TIA

Look in /media directory for entry starting with usb and could be your usb
drive. Remove entry and try to mount again.

Unfortunately, I can't access the media directory - even as super user.

That is unpossible. Do the following steps:
open a terminal
do `su -` (Do not forget the - and log in)
do `whoami` to see you are rrrrrealy rrrroot.
do `cd /`
do `ls -dAlF /media`
do `cd /media`
do `ls -AlF`

Copy and paste that infor here, like:
