WHOA!!! Uhm, you might want to look at some of the other testing results
and newer applications, and some of the other testing files.
Since you are attempting to determine what to BUY, don't limit yourself
to what you already have, as they generally receive their
Internet/group/site recommendations from the FREE versions, where there
are now paid versions of other applications which literally blow the
doors off the AVAST! and AVG offerings. You want the best at known AND
UNKNOWN activities [or at least that's my thoughts].

exactly, I'm looking for a *PERMANENT* anti-virus for all 3 machines.

I use Avast! on my Vista OS and AntiVir on my XP OS. I used AVG on my
old Win98 box.

Your question makes no sense, really, without some indication of how you
use the computer. I'm perfectly happy with my choices, but mostly
because I'm not downloading programs from untrustworthy sources and
executing them right away and hoping that my "protection" programs are
up-to-date enough to detect those that are malware. Timely updates are
paramount in such a scenario, and some of the free AV programs out there
tend to overwhelm their update servers. If an update is delayed, the
window of opportunity for the zero-day effect is expanded.

Same scenario, but with strict adherence to a 'cooling off period'
before attempting to execute such a program, gives ample time for
updates to be in place. Bottom line - none of the AV programs are any
good if you don't play safely.

I tend to be very careful as possible. I do download music but don't
forsee any virus in music but you never know. I use the Win7 computer
the most. The WinXP is used as a game PC and the Fedora11 is just a toy
for fun. But just was wondering what was other peoples opinion on AV
progs before I buy one.
