Hi guys,

I need your help. I´ve tried about everything i know and searched for
hours on the net. Even though i found a lot of tips an settings that
seem to be the solution none of them worked as i wished they would.

Here´s the problem

2 PCs with WinXP Prof. SP3 . Each is a clean installation without cloning.

Each (safe boot) administrator accounts have different passwords

each user works under their own account with activated password

non of the accounts exist on the other pc ... except my account which
exists on both pcs with the same password

guest account is not active

i am user 2 on either pc

on pc1 is a usb printer which is shared

user 1 on pc2 wants to use the printershare on pc1

he can not and get´s the user logon window saying

pc1\user_1_of_pc2

but user 2 from pc2 does not have an account on pc1

Now, if i log on on pc1 and on pc2 i can print without getting the user
log on screen

if user 1 of pc1 does a net view \\pc2

he "sees" every share from pc2

if user1 from pc2 does a net view \\pc1 he gets "error 5"

I fount out about this registry value

"MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa/RestrictAnonymous"

both pcs had a value of 4 (in the user 1 account) on my account there
was a value of "0". So , i changed it to "0" for user1 on either pc

after rebooting both pcs the problem is still there.

i hope you guys can help me somehow. I´ve also tried to disable the
windowsfirewall ... de-activated and activated file and printerhare

there are several other settings i activated after i learned about them
but non of them solved the problem

can anyone help ?

Whenever I am having problems with network shares, the first check I
make is that the Workgroup is the same for all computers. You can check
it by right clicking on My Computer->Select Properties->Click on
Computer Name.

Whenever you share files and printers, ensure the workgroup is the same.
I would recommend that the users accounts and passwords be loaded on all
PC sharing files/printer. This way if user1 needs to get on the other
computer he will not have an authentication issue (as he would if he has
no account and guest access has been disabled).

So I suggest using the "manage" computer, add local accounts that are
identical on both machines.
